Haijin and Curator of The House That Pulse Built

As Haijin (a writer of haiku poetry), my life journey is the stuff my haiku are made of…life constantly amazes me! It’s pleasures, pains and secrets are the infinite source of my creativity. As a Feminist writer of Black and Native American descent, i am a spiritual activist, bearing witness to the boldness of my ancestors of Place…my ancestors of Blood…and my ancestors of Tradition. Indeed, i am a grateful daughter of the universe. As a digital cartoonist, my ‘haiku-toons’ are fashioned like beams of fantasy…i direct them outwards towards the imagination, with the hope of warming hearts and stirring minds.

Active in community arts since 1992, i learned my craft from  veteran Black Arts Movement writers and visual artists Malkia M’Buzi, Askia Toure Sam Grisham and Robert Earl ‘Bashiri’ Price. Since that time, i have published, recorded and performed my work throughout the United States and Europe. My poetry and media art speaks of ancestral memory, philosophy, love, politics, spirituality, history and herstory. Through community storytelling, i am able to create collectively with other artists, to transform my personal truth as a Black feminist writer, into a shared human experience.
